What it means to me...
Growing up I watched The Shawshank Redemption and I was excited and entertained by its contents; a prison, fights and even a prison breakout. However, I was also inspired by its theme of hope. As a kid I experienced certain conditions that lead to me needing to be hopeful, in order to be strong in life and to move on from my struggles. I also believe that I have a very hopeful and optimistic nature because of it; and due to that I identify with the hopeful themes in the film. I admire Andy's strong and consistent hope, as well as his relationship with Red. I loved their bond and the way that they effected each other, with Andy teaching Red hope and reminding him how beautiful the outside world is, while Red taught Andy about prison and helped him to have friends and knowledge enough to survive the experience. The film has always effected me in an, almost, inexplicable way. I also do not know many films that cover as many pop culture topics as this one, which I think is important.
